The WSET Level 3 Award in spirits is an in-depth training course for professionals and spirits enthusiasts who wish to expand their knowledge of distillation, production, and quality evaluation of mainstream and artisan spirits.

You will be tasting approximately 60 different spirits, from whiskies, vodka, gin, tequilas, mezcal, liqueurs and rum. You’ll also learn technical production methods from processing raw materials, fermentation, distillation and post distillation practices over a wide range of spirit categories. You’ll also explore the key practices and principles of serving spirits, describing and evaluating quality levels.

Upon successful completion you will receive your Globally recognized WSET certificate and lapel pin.

This course is offered over 9 weeks, culminating in an in-person exam at any one of our exam centres throughout New Zealand. The exam is 2 1/2 hours, and includes a tasting and theory exam. For this reason, remote exams are not possible for Level 3 awards.

The online course includes:

  • The WSET Level 3 in Spirits Study Pack.

  • The WSET Level 3 in Spirits Online Preparation course via Global Online Classroom.

  • Access to online classes LIVE or recordings after the teaching sessions.

  • Tastings of all 60 spirits recommended for tasting in the course (Liquor License 60/OFF/99/2022).

  • Educator support for 9 weeks from our team of WSET educators, including weekly online drop in sessions.

  • The ability to learn in your own time from recordings or our online activities.

  • The ability to sit the exam at a range of venues throughout New Zealand following completion of the course.

Course Commences:

Pre-course materials and online preparation course available from 14th June.

Sunday 14th July 2-4 pm. Orientation and Calibration tasting 2-4pm.

Monday/Wednesday 5:30pm to 7pm from 15th July to 11th September.

Final Session: 15th September. 2-3pm for exam briefing.

Exam week: 16th to 20th September.
