The WSET Level 3 Award in spirits is an in-depth training course for professionals and spirits enthusiasts who wish to hone their knowledge of distillation, production, and quality evaluation of mainstream and artisan spirits.
You will be tasting approximately 60 different spirits, from whiskies, vodka, gin, tequilas, mezcal, liqueurs and rum. You’ll also learn technical production methods from processing raw materials, fermentation, distillation and post distillation practices over a wide range of spirit categories. You’ll also explore the key practices and principles of serving spirits, describing and evaluating quality levels.
We offer this course online and in person.
The in person course runs as a five and half days course, with a tasting and theory exam scheduled for the final afternoon of the course, the exam is 2.5h in total. Participants will receive their course material in advance, and it is recommended that all candidates allow 45+ hours of preparation to read the course text prior to the course days.
The course days will involve evaluation and tasting of spirits. Therefore, you must be of legal drinking age to enrol.
The online course runs for 9 weeks online and can be completed in your own time and at your own pace. Whilst 9 weeks of tutor supervision is provided, access to the course is avialable for 12 months from the start date. Due to the tasting element of the exam, exams are sat in person. We work closely with our students to find suitable dates and venues that suit their individual situations.
Upon successful completion you will receive your Globally recognized WSET certificate and lapel pin.
